Sangakkara and Tharanga Paranavitana struck their centuries as Sri Lanka took control of the second Test against India. Sangakkara (130 not out) reached his 23rd Test century while Tharanga (100) scored his second century. Electing to bat, Tillakaratne Dilshan (54) and Paranavitana provided a good start to the innings. The Indians were pushed on the backfoot almost immediately after play began with Dilshan and Paranavitana unleashing fury strokes. Both Paranavitana and Sangakkara completed their centuries in the same over off Virender Sehwag.
Sangakkara got his half century after he whipped Ishant Sharma through the midwicket boundary. Paranavitana then completed his fifty when he got back to hit Sehwag’s ball. Sri Lanka raced to 200 in a 285 balls and Paranavitana and Sangakkara also got to their 100 runs partnership in 174 balls. Gautam Gambhir was ruled out due to his knee problem while Yuvraj Singh made his way to Suresh Raina to fever.
